The Office of Intercultural Relations at Old Dominion University is seeking candidates for the Associate Director, Multicultural Initiatives (full-time, 12 month) position. Reporting to the Executive Director of Intercultural Relations, this position will develop, implement, and monitor programs, initiatives, and events that assist in the recruitment and retention for students of color, and offer guidance and support to these populations. The incumbent will display a broad-based knowledge of diverse populations with an emphasis on underrepresented and underserved student populations to enhance engagement and retention. This position requires demonstration of cultural competence and ability to support and advocate for marginalized student populations including the LGBTQ student community. Other duties include: assist in the coordination and conducting of campus wide diversity seminars and workshops, implement initiatives that promote the celebration of diverse ethnic/cultural groups; train, educate, and assess processes that result in an inclusive, culturally aware and competent campus environment.
Required Education: Master’s degree in student affairs, higher education, education, or related field.
Required Qualifications: Several years of progressive responsibilities within student or multicultural affairs at a public or private institution of higher learning. Demonstrated ability and experience in building partnerships with university and community constituents. Extensive training and experience in conducting diversity workshops. Program planning, implementation and evaluation skills are required, as are excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated effectiveness in advising students and student organizations is essential, as is creativity and the ability to manage multiple priorities. Demonstrated knowledge of diverse populations with an emphasis on multicultural, LGBTQ, underrepresented, and underserved populations. Broad-based knowledge of ethnic and racial cultures, faith traditions, domestic, and international communities.
