Principal Plant Operator
(3 days on/3 days off; 6:00p.m. – 6:00a.m.)
Salary Range: $43,827 – $74,842

Chesterfield County is currently seeking a Principal Plant Operator to operate and maintain a wastewater treatment facility; monitor and adjust process control equipment to maintain proper treatment; adjust valves to maintain sludge digestion operation; collects process monitoring samples; maintains chemical feeds to the process; performs field analytical tests; records and reports operational data; observes process trends and monitors instrumentation; labels and replaces charts; monitors SCADA system; inventories chemicals. Perform other work as required. Successful candidate will possess a high school diploma or GED; associate's or bachelor's degree in a science or engineering related field preferred; five years of experience in wastewater treatment plant operations; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Must possess a Commonwealth of Virginia Class I Wastewater Operator's License. Knowledge of current wastewater treatment principles; anerobic digestion and associated dewatering practices; NPDES reporting requirements. Ability to perform manual labor and heavy lifting required. Commonwealth of Virginia Class I Wastewater Operator's License is required for the advertised classification and salary range. Applicants with Class II, Class III or trainee licensing status will receive consideration at lower level plant operator classifications and salary grades/ranges. College graduates with a degree in biological, chemical or engineering science may start as a Class III. Other non-licensed applicants will start as Class III Trainee. Trainees and licensees with lower than a Class I license will receive salary increases after passing higher license exams. Good driving record required. Must not reflect a total accumulation of six or more negative points within the past three years or a major violation within the past four years.
