Chesterfield County is seeking a Senior Automation Analyst to analyze the Department of Utilities' information needs and make recommendations for improvements; develop, interpret and support relational database solutions in a Microsoft SQL Server environment that addresses critical business functions or needs for the department; identify and troubleshoot code-related issues. Extract data, present data, and put data into spreadsheets; create, modify, and test various SQL queries, stored procedures, and views for obtaining data; create consistent and accurate technical documentation of implemented applications, databases, and systems. Create new and modify existing SSRS reports. Assist other analysts and the Automation Coordinator in the research and implementation of best practices for the department's database environment including maintenance issues, operation requirements, disaster recovery, and security. Act as back-up to the Utilities database administrator which requires routine exchange of all project requirements. Evaluate and propose the effectiveness of alternative approaches to user needs; assist in the training of department personnel in the utilization of computer systems and software. Perform other work as required.
Hiring Range: $48,169 - $71,072

Successful candidate will possess a bachelor's degree in information systems with emphasis on analysis, from a technical aspect, as well as a business/process point of view; three years of experience in computer field with experience geared toward application development in a relational database environment (five years preferred); or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Transact SQL (T-SQL) experience in both creating and maintaining queries, views, and stored procedures in a multi-database environment required. Experience in relational database design, data analysis, and performance tuning; develop, test, and maintain reporting processes (SSRS) experience; ability to handle common database procedures such as upgrade, backup, recovery, migration, etc. Experience in creating SQL Server database objects such as tables, views, procedures, functions, and triggers. Must have experience with operating system and their environments, as well as higher level database systems and structures. Ability to develop and organize high-quality technical system documentation. Detail-oriented with ability to manage multiple projects with excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to identify, research and recommend equipment and/or software improvements and upgrades.
Good driving record required. Must not reflect a total accumulation of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months.
