Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC) is a progressive member owned utility with a service area that spreads from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the tidal waters of the Chesapeake Bay, REC serves over 165,000 connections in portions of 22 Virginia counties. REC is seeking strategic executive level candidates for the Manager of Human Resources and Employee Development position. Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Business Administration or eight (8) years progressive experience in the field of human resources. Must complete at least one (1) professional development activity annually. Must have a minimum of nine (9) years of progressive experience in human resources, labor relations, and insurance administration. Experience at the management level with an electric utility or service type organization will be given favorable consideration. Should possess a workable knowledge of the principles and practices in all areas of human resources including the areas of business management, organizational and employee development, labor relations, benefits and insurance administration. Must understand the principles of management and supervision in properly motivating employees to effective performance and coordinated team effort. Must possess basic computer skills, to include a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products as required by job responsibilities. Must have leadership ability to effectively exercise authority with requisite interpersonal skills and meet with and relate to the public in a pleasuring manner. Must be an effective speaker and writer (English language) to carry out internal and external, written and oral communications responsibilities. Perform other duties as assigned. Most of the work is performed in the headquarters office. Occasional trips to the regional offices (safety meetings, meeting with employees) are required. Attendance of seminars and conferences several times a year is also required.

The Cooperative was formed in 1980 after the consolidation of two cooperatives, Virginia Electric Cooperative in Bowling Green and Northern Piedmont Electric Cooperative in Culpeper. REC operates and maintains more than 16,000 miles of power lines through its service area, which ranges from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the tidal waters of the Chesapeake Bay. The Cooperative serves a variety of residential, commercial and industrial accounts. REC's largest customer is Bear Island Paper Company, the second largest consumer of electricity in Virginia. REC also provides the electricity for such familiar names as Kings Dominion Amusement Park, Terremark Worldwide Inc., Merillat Industries, General Electric, Axalta, Kraft Foods Group, Inc. and Southeastern Container, Inc.
The Cooperative is guided by a board of directors, also member-owners of REC, and who are elected by REC's other members during the annual meeting. Directors serve three-year terms.
