Fleet Services Division Chief

Chesterfield County is seeking an experience Fleet Services Division Chief. Plans, manages and oversees vehicle fleet preventative maintenance and repair operations to maximize utilization and minimize life cycle cost for a fleet of approximately 2,500 vehicles with 80 employees and three shop locations; oversees vehicle fueling and motor pool operations; administers a fleet lease program for departments; purchases vehicles and automotive maintenance equipment and supplies, to include research and specification development; oversees financial operations and prepares budgets; recruits staff and ensures ongoing professional training development; ensures compliance with regulatory requirements for the inspection and maintenance of vehicles. Works in coordination with department leadership to advance strategic initiatives. Perform other work as required. Successful candidate will possess an associate's degree in business or public administration or related field and seven years of increasingly responsible experience in fleet services operations for a fleet of 500 or more vehicles, preferably including light and heavy vehicles, school buses, and fire apparatus, including three years of supervisory experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Bachelor's degree and/or CAFM certification preferred, but not mandatory. Knowledge of the principles and practices of fleet management, automotive repair and preventative maintenance, analysis of labor, material, and operational costs for financial management; strong collaboration, communication and interpersonal skills, superior customer service and customer relations skills; experience with overseeing comprehensive environmental health and safety program; demonstrated strategic planning and project management experience; previous human resource and procurement experience; demonstrated commitment to staff training and professional development; previous experience with implementing alternative fuel programs desirable. Good driving record required. Must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation within the preceding thirty-six months.
