Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC) is a progressive member owned utility with a service area that spreads from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the tidal waters of the Chesapeake Bay. REC serves over 165,000 connections in portions of 22 Virginia counties. REC has a job opening for the position of
Director of Human Resources. A four (4) year degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university
required. Major emphasis in human
resources management, personnel
administration, psychology, industrial relations, business administration, or business management or equivalent with emphasis in business and human resources administration is preferred. Must complete at least one (1)
professional development activity
annually. Must have at least four (4) years directly related progressive
experience at a management/supervisory level in
human resources, payroll, and
insurance administration. Must
possess a workable knowledge of
applying business and labor laws,
payroll, benefits and insurance
administration. Must understand the principles of management and
supervision in properly motivating
employees to effective performance and a coordinated team effort. Must possess basic computer skills, to
include a working knowledge of
Microsoft Office products. Must be
objective, reliable, and prompt in
performance of duties. Must be of highest integrity, and use discretion, and confidentiality. Must have the
ability to effectively analyze programs, handle abstract facts, develop
solutions to problems, and the ability to work with all kinds of people.
Collect, compile and analyze
information and data, and interpret and apply laws, ordinances, and policies. Must have an attitude in this position to reflect a willingness to cooperate, perform, and contribute to the
department's goals of providing
excellent member service to the total organization. Perform other duties as assigned. Most of the work is
performed in the headquarters office. Occasional trips to the regional offices (safety meetings, meeting with
employees, etc.) may be required.
Attendance of seminars and
conferences several times a year is
also required. Must be able and
available to work outside of normal
duty hours to assist with service
restoration and/or other emergencies that may arise.

The Cooperative was formed in 1980 after the consolidation of two cooperatives, Virginia Electric Cooperative in Bowling Green and Northern Piedmont Electric Cooperative in Culpeper. The Cooperative is guided by a board of directors, also member-owners of REC, and who are elected by REC's other members during the annual meeting. Directors serve three-year terms.
