Chesterfield County's Utilities Department is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to operate rubber tire backhoes and excavators to dig excavations around waterlines; perform maintenance and repairs; operate other construction equipment and perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks related to waterline maintenance and repair. Perform other work as required. PLEASE NOTE: Overtime may be frequent and required to include nights. Successful candidate will possess a high school diploma or GED and three years of experience operating heavy motorized equipment such as rubber tire backhoes, excavators and loaders, trenchers, crane trucks and dump trucks towing trailers; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Emphasis on backhoe operation. Ability to perform heavy lifting required. Ability to perform light maintenance on heavy equipment. Knowledge of OSHA construction standard requirements related to excavations and trench safety. Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class "A" required or must have the ability to obtain within six months of employment. Good driving record required. Must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check and education/degree verification required.
