Adirondack Family Camp Manager
Beautiful Adirondack camp with multi-generational ownership and use is seeking a camp manager. Located on a remote lake near Tupper Lake, NY, the job requires full time presence from the end of June through Labor Day. Part time work is required in May and early June to open the camp and again in late September and October to close the camp. Little time is required during the remainder of the year.
The camp consists of a Main Cabin, which houses the communal kitchen, dining room, and living room, and seven smaller sleeping cabins. All the cabins have multiple bathrooms, and several have smaller, independent kitchens. The average number of residents during the summer is 12‐15.
Communication, people skills and warmth are important, as is being comfortable with a rural environment. Experience with similar work, including managing staff, is a plus. The position is hands-on as well as managerial and requires multi-tasking and pitching in.
Responsibilities include:
- Opening and closing the camp, beginning in May and ending in October.
- Hiring seasonal domestic staff, as needed.
- Supervising the cook and household staff from late June through Labor Day.
- Communicating with family members regarding arrivals, departures, accommodations and specific needs.
- Overseeing the care and cleaning of facilities.
- Coordinating with the camp superintendent/caretaker about building maintenance and repairs.
- Helping plan and organize menus and grocery lists with residents and cook to ensure smooth operations during the summer weeks. This includes grocery shopping at least twice weekly.
- Tracking expenses and providing accounting to the family office.
Seasonal housing is available, and we provide a car for work.
