The primary responsibility for the Academic Advisor is to work as a team member with fellow Academic Advisors and perform a wide variety of generally complex work by providing holistic and proactive academic advising to students in the online program environment. This includes collaborating with students on their individualized educational pathways, creating academic plans and schedules, providing proactive outreach to students, performing other activities related to student success and advising, and supporting students in making decisions concerning their learning experiences, academic goals, persistence, and timely graduation.

A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL:
  • Provide direct academic advising to students regarding degree requirements, academic standing, appropriate course selection, relevant policies and procedures, e-advising tools, and campus resources.
  • Help students identify, define, develop, and assess realistic and individualized educational pathways and academic plans.
  • Actively participate in initiatives, campaigns, outreach, and events related to student success and advising.
  • Assist students to engage in their learning experiences, develop accountability for their decisions, and cultivate an understanding of how those decisions impact their success.
  • Closely monitor scenarios, and identify opportunities to develop, implement, measure, and improve academic success strategies.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor degree in related field required.
  • Master's degree in Academic Advising, Student Affairs, Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience required.
  • Bilingual highly preferred.
