Job Description:

Brown University Athletics and Recreation is currently seeking candidates for the Head Coach, Men's Lacrosse position. Located in Providence, Rhode Island, and a member of the Ivy League, our intercollegiate athletics program consists of 34 varsity teams with approximately 1,000 athletes who participate in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA-D1).

The Head Coach is responsible for the recruitment and development of student-athletes to build a successful varsity men's lacrosse program. Job duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Coaching and teaching of student-athletes to include the design and implementation of a safe training program that advances individual and team performance skills.
  • Recruit quality student-athletes capable of pursuing the baccalaureate degree as demonstrated by maintenance of an exemplary graduation rate.
  • Represent Brown University, the division of athletics & recreation, and the women's lacrosse program positively to various internal and external constituencies including students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni, fans, community, media, etc.
  • Ensuring program-wide compliance with NCAA and Ivy League regulations, including maintaining knowledge about rule changes, applications, and interpretations.
  • Train, supervise, and evaluate assistant coaches.
  • Assign coaching, recruiting, and administrative responsibilities to assistant coaches and staff and coordinate the search for and hiring of assistant coaches.
  • Oversee the administration of the team budget.
  • Monitor expenditures and prepare budget recommendations.
  • Design a competitive schedule that maximizes student-athlete development and performance.
Entry into the candidate pool requires the following:

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Minimum of five (5) years coaching and recruiting experience in men's lacrosse required, preferably at the collegiate level
Job Competencies
  • Ability to recruit within NCAA and Ivy League rules.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop nationally competitive athletes.
  • Demonstrated academic success of previously coached student-athletes.
  • Ability to manage a staff.
  • Exemplary ethical conduct and conformance to NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive community and the ability to influence student-athletes to do the same
  • Possess a willingness and ability to support and promote a diverse and inclusive campus community.
  • Commitment to the student-athlete and the ability to coach, effectively communicate and motivate.
  • Strong organizational; interpersonal; communication; budgeting and computer skills needed.
  • Knowledge and understanding of, and commitment to comply with, NCAA, Ivy League, and University rules and regulations.
All division employees are required to demonstrate exemplary ethical conduct and conformance to NCAA rules and regulations; the duties of the position are to be performed in compliance with all NCAA and Ivy League rules and regulations; and any rules violations on behalf of themselves or any knowledge of violations within the division are to be reported to the appropriate parties. Employees in coaching positions are required to pass the NCAA Coaches Certification Test, maintain current AED/CPR & First Aid certification (certification is available at no cost through the Division), and attend all required divisional and/or NCAA training/education programs.
