Coppin State University, A fully accredited institution and a member of the University System of Maryland is accepting applications for a full-time Department Chair-Associate Professor, for the Department of Social Work. Founded in 1900 Coppin is an urban residential historically black university, serving nearly 3,000 students enrolled in day, evening, weekend, and online courses. The full-time, tenure-track Associate Professor faculty position is a ten-month position that includes teaching, advising, and academic Committee Membership responsibilities. (The Department Chair position includes a separate contract for 12-months [inclusive of the two (2) months in the summer. The Chair also receives a 2-course release for the fall and spring semesters]. The Chair is responsible for the coordination, implementation, oversite, and completion of and for all associated administrative duties including the reaffirmation process). The Chair also receives a 2-course teaching release for the fall and spring semesters.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Deliver instruction to courses within the Department.
  • Coordinate support to students including in the areas of retention, progression, and graduation of students.
  • Coordinate delivery of academic programs and unit strategic planning and assessment in accordance with the Department, College, and University mission.
  • Hiring and evaluation of department personnel, to include faculty and staff along with department budgeting and resource management.
  • Other duties as needed to support the Department and College.
Required Qualifications

EDUCATION:
  • Doctorate degree
  • Licensed Master Social Worker preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
  • A proven and successful track record that reflects the detailed duties and responsibilities of the position(s).
  • Must have at least five (5) years' experience as a senior faculty and program coordinator and have enough experience to be appointed at the Associate Professor status.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Demonstrate Leadership/Academic/Scholarly and Administrative Experience.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills and ability to lead effectively.
