Chesterfield County Government is seeking an Assistant Registrar. Under general supervision, performs work of routine difficulty in a variety of clerical functions involving voter registration and the conduct of elections. Reviews and processes voter registration applications. Updates and maintains voter registration records. Assists with preparing and distributing election materials to polling places. Provides information to the general public concerning voter registration and election related issues. Assists with the conduct of local, state and federal elections, as assigned, in accordance with state and federal election laws. Process absentee applications, verify and mail absentee ballots, conduct in person absentee voting and work at early voting satellite locations. Provides training and work direction to new and temporary staff hired during periods of heavier-than-normal workloads. Perform other work as required.
Successful candidate will possess a high school diploma or GED; two years of clerical experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Must be a registered voter in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Working knowledge of standard office practices and procedures; some knowledge of state and federal election laws preferred. Ability to learn, interpret and apply specific federal, state and local voter registration and election laws and regulations; to maintain confidentiality of records; to communicate effectively orally and in writing; to operate a personal computer and related software and other standard office equipment; to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers.
