Description

Dartmouth's Thayer School of Engineering, in partnership with the Dartmouth Cancer Center, seeks to fill a distinguished endowed-chair professorship (at full professor rank) in biomedical engineering, with a focus on cancer-related research. An outstanding candidate is sought with interests which include, but are not limited to, artificial intelligence/big data, wearable and/or nanosensor technologies, digital health, digital therapeutics, and/or medical imaging/physics. Candidates whose research might contribute to the Dartmouth Cancer Center Precision Prevention initiative (https://cancer.dartmouth.edu/stories/research-and-innovation) are of particular interest.

The Thayer School of Engineering is in the midst of a significant expansion of faculty and programs, and this position will join a large and thriving cluster of scholars in cancer-related research involving multiple disciplines and departments at Dartmouth College and Dartmouth-Health. The successful candidate will be affiliated with the Dartmouth Cancer Center's NCI-funded Translational Engineering in Cancer Research Program, which leverages Dartmouth's strengths in interdisciplinary teaching and learning, biomedical sciences and engineering, to discover solutions to critical cancer-related problems in human health faced by communities and regions across the globe.

Dartmouth is a member of the Ivy League and consistently ranks among the world's greatest academic institutions. Home to a celebrated liberal arts curriculum, pioneering professional schools and an NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center, Dartmouth has shaped the education landscape and prepared leaders through its inspirational learning experience. Dartmouth has forged a singular identity, combining its deep commitment to outstanding undergraduate and graduate education with distinguished research and scholarship in the Arts and Sciences and its three leading professional schools — Geisel School of Medicine, Thayer School of Engineering, and Tuck School of Business.

Dartmouth is highly committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive population of students, faculty, and staff. We are especially interested in applicants who are able to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from all backgrounds, including but not limited to: racial and ethnic minorities, women, individuals who identify with LGBTQ+ communities, individuals with disabilities, individuals from lower income backgrounds, and/or first generation college graduates. Applicants should state in their cover letter how their teaching, research, service, and/or life experiences prepare them to advance Dartmouth's commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a doctorate in engineering or related scientific field, have recognized international prominence in the field, and an established record of thought leadership and externally-funded research commensurate with a full-professor endowed-chair appointment. Consideration will be given to candidates who align with Thayer's core focus and values around human-centered engineering; world class research and innovation; integrated interdisciplinary collaboration; and have a strong interest/track-record in translating research to meet human health needs.

Application Instructions

In addition to the cover letter, interested candidates should submit a complete CV, statement of research and teaching interests and philosophy, and contact information for three references via Interfolio at: update website.
