Summary
This position is located in the Family Practice Medical Home Port Team One, Family Medicine, Director Branch Clinic/Sewell's Point, Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. You will provide comprehensive and continuing health and medical care to patients of the uniformed services and others.
This announcement uses the OPM Federal Wide direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.
Responsibilities
- You will provide immunizations; diagnose and treat patients;
- You will assess and record the health status of patients;
- You will order and interpret diagnostic tests and procedures;
- You will prescribe medication according to existing protocols;
- You will coordinate with other health care professionals in the management of patient medical, psychological and social problems;
- You will conduct patient education to assure comprehension and compliance with treatment plans;

Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GP-13 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. This experience/training will include providing general screening and medical care and examinations of patients for routine, acute and chronic conditions involving any and all organ systems.
Applicants must also be able to satisfy clinical privileges requirements which, in addition to the above, includes the following:
- Completion of a residency program in the specialty approved by the American specialty board or AOA, board certification, or board eligible
- Current clinical competence (e.g., privileged to independently practice as a Family Practice Physician within the past 2 years, actively practiced within the past 2 years by having encountered a sufficient number of clinical cases to represent a broad spectrum of the privileges required)
- No health status contraindications to granting clinical privileges
- Board certification is desired but not required
- Possession of Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers Certification
- Posession of Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) for Healthcare Providers Certification

Education
Applicants must meet the following Basic Requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual. Applicants must possess:
- DEGREE: Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of the applicant's graduation. If your Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree is from a foreign medical school that provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States, you must have a permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG), a Fifth Pathway Certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduated education in a foreign country, or successfully completed the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.
- LICENSING: Active, permanent, full, unrestricted physician license to practice medicine in any state, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
- RESIDENCY: 4 years of residency training or equivalent experience and training in Family Medicine (e.g., 3 years Residency & 1 year fellowship, experience or other training). Your resume must reflect you have a sufficient level of expertise in Psychiatry Medicine to perform the core privileges of this position
Additional information
This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, rotating shifts, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
