This position is open within DHS, FEMA, Region 5, Mitigation Division in Chicago, IL. The ideal candidate for this position will have experience with complex environmental reviews. Candidates with expertise related to wetland delineations, endangered species biological assessments, and NEPA Environmental Assessments are highly encouraged to apply.

In this position, you will be a Senior Environmental Protection Specialist. Typical assignments include:

  • Review projects for compliance with Environmental laws and Executive Orders.
  • Conduct desktop research on floodplains, soils, wetland, and species data at project sites.
  • Prepare Records of Environmental Consideration, Environmental Assessments, and Programmatic Environmental Assessments.
  • Collaborate with Environmental and Historic Review Team and FEMA program staff.
  • Providing policy determinations and guidance to assist in program and operational decision making.

Qualifications
The qualification requirements listed below must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

To qualify for this position at the GS-13 level, you must possess one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. Experience may be obtained in the federal government, a state or local government, or private sector, and must demonstrate the following:

Reviewing projects for Environmental Compliance with State or Federal laws is required; AND
Providing technical advice and recommendations on the implementation of environmental compliance.
