Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Associate Vice President for Development, the Senior Director leads a team of gift officers to secure major gifts to support professional education and public impact initiatives.

 

They develop fundraising strategy to support the top priorities and equips the team as well as colleagues throughout the division to solicit prospective donors on the school’s behalf.

 

Occasional travel, work on evenings and weekends, and a valid driver’s license are required.

 

Essential Functions        

  • Develops and executes short and long-term plans and cases for support to secure major gift support for university initiatives with a meaningful Public Impact.
  • In collaboration with the Associate Vice President for Strategic Mission Initiatives and Executive Director, Center for Community Engaged Learning, advances a cross-sectional approach to fundraising for public impact teaching, learning, and research.
  • Mentors and manages gift officers to assigned to the Graduate School of Education, Graduate School of Social Service.
  • Qualifies, cultivates, and solicits prospects capable of making multi-year commitments of $100,000 or more with an average annual target of $1 million or more in gifts and pledges from assigned portfolio.
  • Facilitates the work of colleagues across the division by communicating priorities and giving opportunities and collaborating on solicitations as appropriate.
  • Supports the president, deans, senior university, and development leadership in soliciting principal gift prospects.

Management Responsibilities  

Supervises the work of other Fordham employees who are individual contributors. Responsible for hiring, training and developing, managing performance and administering corrective action. Has significant input in compensation decisions.

         

Required Qualifications: Education and Experience        

  • Bachelor’s degree liberal arts, business, or related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience successfully soliciting major gifts, including the design and execution of identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience training, managing, and coaching individual contributors and/or volunteers.

 

Required Qualifications: Knowledge and Skills     

  • Successful experience developing fundraising strategies and plans aligned with the organization’s mission, priorities, and goals.
  • Demonstrated understanding of, alignment with, and commitment to Fordham’s mission as a Jesuit and Catholic University.
  • Able to listen to and effectively communicate with donors, leadership, colleagues, and other constituents. Emotional intelligence to successfully build and maintain positive relationships with others.
  • Demonstrated competency in using standard office software (MS Office &/or Google Office) and fundraising applications (such as Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge, Ellucian CRM Advance, Tapestry).
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to the goals of Jesuit Education.

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience using Blackbaud’s Fundraiser Performance Management Platform and Ellucian’s CRM Advance.
  • Experience in a higher education setting and/or professional schools.
  • Experience raising funds for education, social services and/or other social causes

 

Minimum Starting Salary: $130,000

 

Maximum Starting Salary: $150,000

 

Note: Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
