Growth & Development reporter, plus county government
This Citizen Times beat is more than a business beat. With new businesses and housing developments popping up every week, this reporter is expected to spot trends, connect dots and tell bigger stories about how the economic engines of this region are impacting WNC and its people.
This reporter is expected to file public records requests and mine data for enterprise stories. As Asheville and WNC balances between an economy based on manufacturing to one based on tourism, the reporter must develop stories that explain how that affects WNC lives.
This reporter also will be comfortable with watchdog and breaking news stories on government accountability, as well as impactful stories that will get the community talking and protect residents’ interests. The beat reaches beyond meetings to include real stories of people who live and work in the area.
