The Department of Biology at George Mason University invites applicants for a non-tenure track, full-time teaching position at the rank of assistant professor. This position is scheduled to begin in August 2023. The person hired in this position should expect to teach courses such as Biostatistics for Biology Majors (BIOL 214), Biostatistics for Bioinformatics (BIOL 312), Biomedical Statistics (BMED 602) as well as some upper division and graduate courses.

About the Department:
George Mason University (Mason) is an Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) STARS Silver-rated, innovative, entrepreneurial, public institution of national distinction. The Department of Biology includes 12 tenured and tenure-track and 14 term faculty focused on undergraduate and graduate education. It maintains research facilities including a 1700 sq. ft. climate-controlled greenhouse and an active 80,000 specimen herbarium. The Department has over 1500 undergraduate majors and employs more than 50 Graduate Teaching Assistants as well as adjunct faculty. Faculty from the Department of Environmental Science and Policy, the School of Systems Biology, the School of Integrative Studies, and the STEM Accelerator Program also contribute to the Biology Department through courses and research collaborations. Responsibilities:
- Primary responsibilities will include teaching and undergraduate academic advising. Secondary responsibilities include developing undergraduate and graduate level courses and laboratory classes to aid the department in fulfilling its educational goals.
Required Qualifications:
- Successful applicants will have a PhD in biostatistics or a related-field, evidence of teaching excellence, and a commitment to education of a diverse student body; and
- Demonstrated knowledge of the barriers faced by historically minoritized and marginalized students and faculty within the discipline or related to the position.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Special consideration will be given to applicants with experience in bioinformatics; and
- Familiarity with R is also highly desirable.
