SUMMARY



The Senior Associate Dean for Student Affairs provides leadership, direction and administrative oversight for the Office of Student Affairs and in the support of students enrolled at Icahn Mount Sinai in reaching their fullest potential. The Senior Associate Dean oversees the development and implementation of programs and services that support the academic, person, and professional success of students; and ensures that the medical student experience remains fully compliant with applicable accreditation standards including the Liaison Committee on Medical Education and the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.



The functions and services supported by the Office of Student Affairs include student well-being and personal growth, career advising and professional development, academic advising and learning resources, student milestone events, and contributes to the development and coordination of formal curricula in these areas.



Student Engagement

* Provides professional, cultural, social, and recreational offerings between students, faculty, staff, and the community focused on enhancing students' sense of belonging.

* Monitor and maintain student satisfaction with the Office of Student Affairs and student affairs resources.

* Ensure that all programs and initiatives are grounded in best practices related to equity, inclusion and anti-oppression.

* Collaborate with the Admissions team to ensure the use of data driven decisions on recruitment and admissions policies and practices

* Collaborate with the curriculum team with the development of orientation and transition programming to help students begin all legs of their academic journey properly prepared.

* Serve as an advocate for student concerns and needs with the faculty and administration.

* Advise student government and coordinate activities of other recognized student organizations and student programs.

* Work with elected student leaders to provide leadership training and mentoring. Meet with student leadership to address student concerns.

Student Development & Accountability

* Develop and implement student programs and initiatives related to professional and personal development.

* Broad oversight and accountability for student conduct, professionalism, and ability to meet technical standards.

* Oversight of all advising programs

* Responsible for tracking and maintaining evaluative comments from all faculty, staff and trainees connected to student's development

* Participate in committees responsible for monitoring student progress

* Promote students' leadership skills through student government, committee representation, engagement in interest groups and co-curricular groups.

Student Well-being and Support

* Serve as advocate to address student concerns, as well as represent student interests as on committees and appropriate groups throughout the school of medicine

* Serve as the first point of contact for assisting students in crises. Manage a triage process to connect students with appropriate resources.

* Monitor data available for students with academic and professionalism difficulties and receive input from teaching faculty.

Administrative Leadership and Staff Development

* Monitor and maintain student satisfaction with the Office of Student Affairs and student affairs resources.

* Support and mentor the career development of direct reports.

* Annual review of the Student Handbook to ensure policies are up to date.

* Engage actively with the community of Student Affairs professionals and position Icahn Mount Sinai as a leader in the national landscape - Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASP)etc.

* Work with the Decanal staff across Icahn Mount Sinai to ensure all students have the care and support required for success.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

* MD, DO, PhD, or Ed D from an accredited college or university

* Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

* Minimum of five (5) years of leadership experience in higher education

* Familiarity with state and federal regulations pertaining to management of student records and the maintenance of student rights, privacy, and safety (e.g., Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Americans with Disabilities Act, Title IX, Campus Safety & Security Act, etc.)

* Strong leadership experience, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle multiple work demands.

* Demonstrated success in collaboration, a strong work ethic and experience in leadership and supervisory roles.

* Demonstrated excellence in building rapport with students and faculty

* A strong student-centered philosophy and understanding of student development and adult learning

* Strong advising and counseling skills that enable mediation, conflict resolution and problem solving.

* Demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging
