James Madison University Foundation, Inc. is accepting applications for the position of Accounting Manager – Tax and Property. This position allows for some hybrid work opportunities, but the successful candidate is expected to live locally and be available for in-office work. The Accounting Manager – Tax & Property will support Foundation tax compliance and operations, as well as provide analysis and reporting around Foundation investments and real estate.

James Madison University Foundation is an independent 501©(3) not-for-profit organization, formed to support and serve the James Madison University community. The Foundation accomplishes its mission through funds management efforts, including endowment management. Duties and Responsibilities:
• Tax compliance and reporting – Oversee tax compliance for the Foundation and its related entities. Prepare all required federal, state and local tax and information returns. Interpret tax regulations in the context of Foundation operations and identify necessary tax filings and reporting requirements.
• Charitable gift compliance – Monitor and review the Foundation's charitable gift policies, gift receipting and solicitations to ensure compliance with IRS regulations. Evaluate complex charitable gifts for tax implications and advise senior management as needed. Direct and administer charitable gift solicitation filings by state.
• Investment and real estate accounting and oversight – Manage the Foundation's investment and real estate accounting. Reconcile investment and real estate balances and related transactions. Oversee debt activities and cash management on real estate properties and obtain necessary documentation for investment subscriptions and the Foundation's year-end audit and tax return. Confirm real estate properties are maintained and insured in accordance with Foundation policy and coordinate the annual inspection process. Prepare business analyses for proposed purchases, sales, and gifts of property and make recommendations to management.
• Payroll and charitable gift annuity management – Coordinate Foundation personnel payments and charitable gift annuity payments to donors. Communicate with personnel and gift annuitants as needed, and remit required monthly, quarterly and annual federal and state filings.
• Other Duties – Assist in the preparation for and conduct of the Foundation's annual independent audit, provide general ledger maintenance oversight, assist in communications to the Foundation's Board of Trustees, and deliver exceptional customer service to constituents such as donors, university faculty and staff, and board members.

Required:
• A bachelor's or master's degree in accounting or related field or equivalent work experience
• Experience preparing individual and business tax returns, 990 information returns, and/or other IRS filings such as 941's, 1099's, and W-2's
• Familiarity with cost/benefit analysis, journal entry preparation and reconciliation work
• Proficiency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel and Access
• Strong attention to detail
• Time-management and problem solving skills
• Ability and desire to work collaboratively and provide excellent customer service

Preferred:
• CPA or CPA eligible
• Public accounting, non-profit, and/or fund accounting experience
Pay Rate: Commensurate with Experience.
