The University Career Center at James Madison University is recruiting for three positions.



Coordinator for Internships & Virginia Employer Outreach (Application review begins May 18)

The Coordinator for Internships & Virginia Employer Outreach is a new position in the University Career Center (UCC) and will serve on the Employer Services Team. This person will work collaboratively with the Employer Services Team and well as others in the UCC and larger JMU community to make connections with employers that want to hire JMU students.



They will develop partnerships between Virginia and internship employers, alumni and faculty to inspire curricular connections to career paths, industries, job roles, and career preparation, especially in academic areas that are not currently utilizing the UCC in high numbers.



The position requires: communication skills both oral and written, ability to make connections with employers, attention to detail, and record keeping ability. Additional desired attributes include: experience in working with employers in a higher education setting, event planning experience, computer skills and ability to work with a wide variety of people with varying levels of knowledge about the college recruiting process.

Two Career Advisors (Application review begins June 10)

The Career Advisors empower students to design their career journey and support them through that journey. They do this by:

-Assisting students individually and in groups with career exploration, job and internship search, resume/CV and cover letter writing, interview skills, and graduate school preparation.

-Developing knowledge about their assigned Career Communities and paths and collaborating with the Employer Services team to meet the needs of all students at any point in their career journey.

-Facilitating career-related connections between faculty, employers, students, and alumni.

-Tailoring career-related programs, services, and resources for their Career Community and/or designated academic unit(s).

-Educating themselves on how student identities impact career journeys and decision-making.



The two positions serve different communities described below:

-Advisor and liaison focused on technology, engineering, research, science, and environmental studies industries and related academic units

-Advisor and liaison to student & cultural communities including Disability Services, Multicultural Student Services, veterans, and first gen students



Career Advisors work predominately in person with a varied remote schedule that averages out to one remote day per week.



Career Advisor requirements include: a master's degree, ability to work effectively as part of a team, strong written and verbal communication skills, experience coaching, advising or mentoring students in a higher education or related setting, experience and ability creating and sustaining collaborative relationships with departments, organizations or student groups, and experience developing educational programs for large and small audiences.
