Job Description:


Longwood University invites applications for the position of Director of Player Development, Men's Basketball (GA213) in Athletics.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Talent assessment and recruiting
  • Ability to formulate skill development plans
  • Administrative tasks as assigned by the Head Coach
  • NCAA and Big South rules compliance
  • Community and University involvement
  • Participate in sports camps and clinics with approval from the Head Coach
  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to provide, training, direction, encouragement and motivation to prepare student-athletes in teambuilding, academic success, team strategy and planning, and sportsmanship
  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to use logic and reasoning to identify potential problems and possible solutions, form conclusions and approaches to problems, as well as developmental needs of others through coaching, mentoring or otherwise helping individuals improve their knowledge or skills; must possess and be able to demonstrate effective leadership and communication skills
  • Others duties as assigned

Requirements:
  • Master's or Bachelor's degree with equivalent training and work experience
  • Extensive amount of coaching at a Division I level
  • Strong commitment to Student-Athlete concept and working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations
  • Must be able to perform physical activities associated with the sport of basketball
  • Must be able to meet the University eligibility requirements to drive fleet vehicles including vans and/or mini-buses
  • Previous experience as a NCAA Division I college basketball player preferred

This position is a full-time, administrative & professional faculty, exempt position. A successful criminal background investigation is required. AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, and other national service alumni are encouraged to apply.
