Job Description:


Longwood University invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Facilities Management / Trades Technician III (00069) in Facilities Management and Operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical expertise and support for electrical components on a variety of systems at the University; installation of all electrical equipment at the University; support of other shops and departments where electrical or control expertise is needed for troubleshooting, repair, or installation of new items; and responding to call back requests during non-work hours.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform corrective maintenance in the electrical trade groups
  • Respond to work orders, inspections, or supervisor's requests
  • Quality of work performed at Journeyman Craftsman level and done to meet local and National Electrical Codes
  • All repairs to be performed in a neat and workmanlike manner
  • Monitor system conditions responding appropriately to alarms, troubles, and system malfunctions
  • Perform preventative maintenance from inspections or work orders up to or above manufacturer recommendations
  • Record accurate labor hours, material, cost, and inventory use using current data from reliable sources
  • Complete documentation such as work orders and/or material invoices and turn in to the supervisor on a daily basis
  • Constantly check on supplies or tools needed to perform maintenance tasks
  • Keep tools and stock neat and orderly and in their proper location
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:


EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Valid driver's license
  • Virginia Journeyman Electrician License
  • Virginia Masters Electrician License, preferred
  • OSHA 40, preferred
  • First aid/CPR, preferred
  • Skilled in troubleshooting electrical systems, devices, equipment, and sensors
  • Ability to develop and implement test procedures within the confines of the university safety policy and NFPA 70E
  • Ability to perform maintenance and repairs and troubleshoot on various electrical systems from 480 volts down to low voltage control circuits and all associated components
  • Knowledge of heating, cooling, and ventilation equipment, VFD's, and Motor Control Centers
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical drawings, block diagrams, flow charts, service manuals, and wiring diagrams
  • Create electrical, mechanical, and control-related field sketches
  • Highly skilled in the use of electrical testing devices
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to analyze and solve practical problems with electrical systems and automated controls
  • Demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Possess the ability to identify code violations and take the appropriate actions to remediate any infractions
  • Possess extensive knowledge of the National Electrical Code
  • Ability to safely and frequently move and handle heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds or more
  • Ability to climb and work from elevated work stations
  • Ability to work for long periods standing, walking, reaching, bending, pushing/pulling
  • Demonstrate basic computer skills
  • Must possess the ability to routinely interface with a diverse student body
  • Demonstrate the ability to provide a high level of customer service

This is a full-time, classified, non-exempt position in a pay band 3. A successful criminal background investigation is required. AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, and other national service alumni are encouraged to apply.
