What is the role?
Michaels Energy is seeking an account management professional with experience working with utility programs. The Energy Efficiency Outreach Specialist will interact with facility managers of large/mid-sized commercial buildings in Virginia. This position is the main point of contact for customers and will usher them from start to finish through their efficiency program journey. We are looking for someone with strong project management and communication skills and a passion for energy efficiency who will thrive in a team environment and will exemplify our core values.
- Customer Management
- Act as the customer’s point of contact for all energy projects
- Identify and engage target market for utility efficiency programs
- Create and execute a sales plan
- Promotes utility rebate programs to customers
- Assists with project planning
- Collaborates with subject matter experts to identify energy efficiency opportunities
- Lead presentations to educate customers on the program
- Project Management
- Maintain a pipeline of customers
- Manage project progress to a deadline
- Project Administration
- Provide status reports to the program delivery team
- Collaborates with engineers, office personnel, facility managers, trade professionals, and utility staff
- Maintain program data in a database
- Track customer information in CRM software
- Document customer meetings and activities
- Follow and/or create program processes
After 3 months, you have….
- Learned Michaels internal processes and business practices
- Develop and start executing a sales plan
- A thorough understanding of assigned efficiency programs
After 6 months, you have….
- Built a strong funnel of projects and customers
- Launched projects with several customers
- Identified continuous improvement opportunities for the program
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- A minimum of two years experience combining any of the following:
- Utility Energy Efficiency Programs
- Account Management
- Technical Sales
- Business to Business to Sales
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Outstanding organization skills
- Experience with building mechanical systems is a plus
- Experience with sales and marketing is a plus
- Interest in energy efficiency and building systems
Travel
- Up to 50% regional travel for customer meetings
- Occasional overnight travel to customer sites and company headquarters

- Richmond/ Northern Virginia
- Office, remote or hybrid
