Housing Assistant Supervising Attorney – Full-time (Hybrid)
Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid (MMLA) is seeking a full-time assistant supervising attorney as part of the Minneapolis Housing Unit. This position is exempt and allows for a hybrid work environment. This position will start as soon as possible after an offer is extended.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Apply the principles of MMLA's Racial Justice Values Statement in all interactions.
- Monitor MMLA’s compliance with housing discrimination grants, including funding received from the federal Office of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
- Serve as MMLA’s primary contact with HUD.
- Work with MMLA’s grants manager to submit grant reports and renewal applications to HUD.
- Supervise MMLA’s Housing Investigation and Outreach Coordinator.
- Potentially supervise staff attorney working on housing discrimination cases.
- Advise and represent clients in a variety of court and administrative forums.
- The assistant supervising attorney will have a reduced caseload to accommodate additional supervision and grant reporting duties.
- Provide training for tenants and advocates about housing rights.
- Assist with community outreach and education as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be licensed to practice law in the State of Minnesota.
- Demonstrated interest in and commitment to the needs of low-income and vulnerable clients.
- Commitment to working as a team member to serve clients’ needs.
- Desire to appear in court to litigate client rights.
- Excellent analytical skills and written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office required.
- Legal training, knowledge of community resources, and experience with case management software.
- Language proficiency, particularly in Arabic, Hmong, Oromo, Somali, or Spanish preferred. Diverse economic, social, and cultural experiences preferred.
- Experience supervising or interest in developing supervisory skills.
SALARY: $58,000 to $69,085 per year, depending on experience, plus benefits. Benefits include family medical and dental insurance, short- and long-term disability, life insurance, 403(b) with employer match, FSA, employee assistance programs, and generous paid time off.
