Information Technology Instructor (Restricted*)
Job Description:
The Information Technology Instructor is a full-time, remote position with the NOVA Workforce division. This individual will develop and teach technical training classes to prepare students for IT industry certification exams. This individual will also assist the Associate Director of IT Programs and other units within the Workforce division to ensure student success in credential attainment.
Note: All Workforce personnel are employed on non-continuous or non-recurring funding, based on anticipated funding.*
Duties and Tasks:
- Design, facilitate, and teach IT certification training courses
- Provide online instruction and practical training to successfully prepare students to pass IT certification exams.
- Develop course syllabi and instructional materials for the online environment.
- Maintain records, assign grades, and assess student progress.
- Assist in curriculum design and development.
- Maintain current in teaching disciplines and in trends in the IT industry.
- Other duties as assigned.
Advance Student Success
- Track IT FastForward student outcomes and progress.
- Assist with accessing student readiness and prerequisite skills.
- Assist with developing and delivering online student orientations for all IT FastForward programs.
- Assist with providing virtual student advising.
- Assist with recruiting, training, and mentoring instructors teaching classes online.
KSA’s:
- Excellent communicator with the proven ability to successfully deliver and communicate complex technical training.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and work effectively with multi-cultural populations.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in the teaching field or appropriately qualifying field. Qualifying degree must be from a regionally accredited institution.
- Experience in classroom IT instruction.
- Related occupational experience.
- Experience in curriculum design and development.
- Holds one or more active CompTIA or AWS industry certifications or is willing to obtain certs within a year of start date.
- Experience teaching certification prep courses.
Preferred Qualifications:
- CompTIA Certified Technical Trainer (CTT+) certification.
- Experience teaching Java, Python and SQL.
- Experience teaching IT apprenticeship training programs.
- Experience teaching virtually and utilizing interactive online teaching tools and resources.
- Experience using Learning Management Systems, preferably Canvas.
- Experience teaching “boot camp” style training courses.
- Relevant industry experience.
- Experience advising and mentoring students.
- Experience working with a diverse student population.
