The Attorney General's Office is looking for a Legal Analyst to work in the Insurance & Financial Services Division, which provides consumer assistance and enforces laws regarding insurance, investment, and lending issues, including a focus on post-secondary education, debt, and loan servicing through its Student Loan Assistance Unit.
Primary Duties: Legal Analysts are attorneys who mediate consumer complaints, respond to consumer requests for assistance, and assist more experienced Assistant Attorneys General with the investigation/litigation of consumer protection matters and the implementation of settlements. Legal Analysts help consumers with an array of insurance and investment matters and navigate complex student lending issues, such as income-driven repayment plans, public service loan forgiveness, student loan default procedures, loan discharges, debt collection, debt relief, and loan servicing practices.

Salary: $57,750

Position Requirements: JD from an accredited law school, bar admission preferred. Familiarity with student lending, education law, retail installment contracts, and the Massachusetts Consumer Protection Act are helpful, as is prior exposure to Superior Court civil affirmative cases and practice. Experience with deposition preparation, legal research and writing, data analysis, and mediation of insurance and financial services issues are highly desirable. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required. Applicants must be comfortable working autonomously, but also as part of a team.
