Laboratory Specialist Senior (00005A)

Effectively support the teaching and research laboratories. Supervise graduate and undergraduate students in their respective hiring capacity. Maintain an accurate inventory of laboratory supplies, chemicals and equipment.

Required Qualifications:

Basic knowledge of laboratory procedures, equipment and analytical techniques in chemistry or related sciences Demonstrated ability in the storage, handling, and preparation of chemicals. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and pleasantly either via telephone or personal contact with administrators, faculty, students, and public. Demonstrated ability in the use of computer work processing, spreadsheets, and data base programs. Demonstrated ability to manipulate fairly heavy and bulky objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Demonstrated ability to lead and direct the work of others.

Basic experience with managing academic and research laboratories to include some supervisory experience. Some experience with computerized records (word processing, database, and spreadsheets).

Preferred Qualifications:

Associate's or bachelor's degree in chemistry or similar life/physical science discipline; prior course work in chemistry.

Conditions of Employment:

Working hours are from 8:00 am-5:00 pm Monday through Friday.
