The position is responsible for digital marketing video acquisition and production to enhance the University's reputation and brand image in alignment with University standards. Delivers videos to a diverse audience that may include key constituents, internal and external stakeholders, the community-at-large and the news media. Maximizes the quality and frequency of marketing videos and influences and executes video strategy. This position presents compelling stories and key messages through video. Under general direction, plans and facilitates studio and field-based video production, converts format of completed edited products, conducts photography, and performs other related duties as assigned. Responsible for staying up to date on the latest digital cameras, processes and editing techniques. Maintains an extensive and current library of quality video footage representing all aspects of life on ODU's campus.
Required Qualifications:
Considerable knowledge and experience of the principles of analogue and digital video capture. Considerable knowledge and experience of effective customer service and problem-resolution techniques when serving diverse customers. Strong oral and written communication skills including writing interview questions and video scripts, and communicating complex subjects in a compelling, expressive and creative manner. Proficient skill in the operation of production equipment including video cameras and recorders, audio recording equipment. Proficient skill in the operation of video editing software and/or web-based video applications. Demonstrated ability to multitask to effectively work on short projects with tight deadlines as well as long-term video campaigns that require multiple shoots, scheduling, and editing. Demonstrated ability to properly set-up and operate video production and post-production equipment.
Demonstrated ability to prioritize work, make workflow decisions and manage projects which accurately reflect the importance of job responsibilities. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment. Demonstrated ability to plan and organize a video shoot. Considerable experience with video editing using non-linear digital editing software such as, Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, or Avid to piece raw footage into a cohesive video story. Considerable experience operating video cameras and camera controls, ensuring the proper selection of shutter speeds, apertures, lens types, filters and effects.
Working experience using microphones to obtain audio and operating lighting equipment. Some experience researching, organizing, planning, coordinating, managing and directing video production projects.
Preferred Qualifications:
Completion of undergraduate degree with preferred majors in film, marketing, journalism, or communications or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. Some knowledge providing a familiarity with DSLR equipment. Basic still photography skills. Strong storytelling and storyboarding skills, including the ability to take complex research stories and produce a video feature that is accessible to a lay audience. Demonstrated ability to execute video projects through all stages of production including producing, concepting, location scouting, casting, scheduling, interviewing, shooting, directing and editing. Demonstrated ability to edit with tight deadlines and manage multiple video projects simultaneously. Some experience with lighting equipment, file compression, and graphics manipulation. Some experience with motion graphics and graphic design using software such as Adobe After Effects and Adobe Photoshop or other related packages. Some experience in a professional or academic video editing/producing environment demonstrating competence in all areas of video production. Some experience cataloging video.
