The University Social Media Manager will set the university-wide social media strategy based on best practices. Create engaging, informative, and strategic social media content to showcase the University's strongest assets and support ODU's progress in achievement. The Digital & Social Media Manager develops rich digital media for the University web presence and assists with operations of the University Digital Marketing team. Given the nature of the positions in University Communications, the employee occupying this position may be required to work during a university closing. There may be occasions where the employee will be asked to work during university closings as directed by his or her supervisor. These instances may include working from a remote location (i.e. telework, etc.).
Considerable knowledge of all social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube) and the ability to know what may engage the University's key target audiences on each platform. Considerable knowledge of communications, marketing and branding principles. Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, Web standards and Web accessibility standards. Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite. Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Excellent customer service skills. Excellent collaboration skills. Effective proofreading skills. Demonstrated ability to conceptualize social media campaigns and implement across channels and across the University. Demonstrated ability to solicit and utilize materials and feedback from multiple constituents. Demonstrated ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a deadline-driven environment. Demonstrated ability to deliver clean, concise content under tight deadlines. Prior working experience with a variety of social media dashboards, listening and monitoring tools. Some experience delivering emergency communication at any given time. Some experience applying analytical skills to generate insights to get results.
Considerable experience at a professional level developing and implementing social media strategy and managing the primary social media accounts for an organization. Considerable experience writing for the Web and social media. Some experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator). Some experience with HTML, content management systems such as Adobe Experience Manager (AEM) and Drupal. Some experience with computer graphics and multimedia design. Demonstrated creativity in developing creative and visual content. Prefer a self-starter, creative, innovative thinker who can help drive the Old Dominion University brand to new heights using social media and engagement. Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Conditions of Employment:
Working business hours are 8:00 AM through 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Given the nature of this position within University Communications, there will be occasions where the employee will be asked to work outside of business hours or during university closings as directed by his or her supervisor.
