Job Description

The Department of Ocean & Earth Sciences at Old Dominion University (ODU) seeks candidates with research interests in Computational Ocean Sciences for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position with an expected start date of Fall 2024. Research interests can include any of the following: climate and ocean data analysis, physical-biological interactions, biogeochemistry, and sea-level rise.

The successful candidate will have expertise in using data science and machine learning to study ocean processes and may utilize the University high performance computing environment. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, develop an independent and externally funded research program, contribute to teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels, mentor students, and contribute to ODU's interdisciplinary research activities focused on environmental data science and resilience.

The Department has 21 faculty members with strengths in physical, geological, chemical, and biological oceanography and coastal geosciences. Old Dominion University is a metropolitan, R1 research public institution with an enrollment of 24,000+ students, including approximately 6,000 graduate students, and a full-time equivalent faculty of over 850, of which 40% are women. The University's primary campus is located in Norfolk, one of seven cities that make up the historic Hampton Roads region of Virginia.
