The Network Operations Center Technician is essential to the technical support of Distance Learning’s multiple data, video, and audio networks and supports ODU students, staff, and faculty, as well as external clients. This position will troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve technical network related issues as well as provide a high level of customer support. As such, the technician must be customer assistance oriented and possess working knowledge of all content delivery platforms and communication systems in use.
Required Qualifications: Working knowledge of video conferencing, internet video streaming, or wireless wide area networks, Working knowledge of PC-related software to include Microsoft Office Suite, Strong customer service skills and problem resolution techniques, Strong oral and written communication skills, Strong organizational and time management skills, Demonstrated ability to operate and support data networks with emphasis on communication systems, Demonstrated ability to both lend expertise and participate as a valued member of a project team to include flexibility to support changing technologies to achieve overall goals of the organization, Demonstrated ability to work in a help desk operational environment.
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, Database and server administration experience, Programming/scripting in a computer language (such as C/C#, Java, Python, PHP, HTML), Experience with video conferencing, internet video streaming, and wireless wide area networks, Experience in a 24×7 network operations center, CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, Cisco network certifications. Associate’s Degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and working experience.
