Pay Rate: $38,870.00 - $47,730.00/per year. Pay will be determined based on related work experience above required. To be considered in determining pay, all related work experience must be listed on the application.

Position Summary: The overall purpose of this job is to provide technical support for lab equipment and machinery in the Welding Technology labs and offices, including but not limited to ordering and maintaining inventory supplies, consumables, and materials used for student labs.

Essential Functions:

20% Repair or replace defective laboratory equipment.

20% Host and supervise open labs.

10% Teach labs as needed.

10% Maintain laboratory equipment.

10% Order and maintain supplies used for student labs.

5% Design and build new lab equipment.

5% Research / Order new lab equipment.

5% Maintain stock of commonly used parts for quick response to problems.

5% Supervise student workers.

5% Recruitment for the Welding Technology program.

5% Other duties as assigned.

Key Results Areas: Department lab equipment maintained in good / safe working order for student use. Fast, in house response to problems and breakdowns. In house design of equipment for specific teaching requirements. Support Department equipment and students.

Job Requirements:
  • Minimum of an Associate's degree in Welding, Welding Technology, or a related field from a regionally accredited college or university, OR,
  • A postsecondary diploma and/or a nationally recognized certification and/or completion of a union apprenticeship with the ability to achieve an Associate's degree in Welding, Welding Technology, or related field from a regionally accredited college or university within (5) years of initial employment date (candidates must take 6 credit hours per academic year).
  • Minimum of five years' experience in related field(s).
Part-time work experience is calculated at 50% credit of full-time work experience.

Complexity & Creativity:

In house design of equipment for specific teaching requirements. Meets with professors to set goals, specification, and budget for new devices. Generate parts and supply list and find vendors with best price/quality. Create documentation. Adheres to PSTCCs Policies and procedures.

Magnitude of Impact:

Position primarily impacts the engineering and media technology department. Actions are evident anytime classes are in progress. Occasionally it may also impact other departments such as Procurement Services or Facilities. The timeframe is immediate to within days or weeks. Long term impacts are infrequent.

Responsibility for Accuracy: Preparing the wrong material needed, and not maintaining accurate supply records.

Financial Impact: Responsible for finding best price/suppliers for parts, supplies, and equipment for daily operation of department labs. Over ordering or buying wrong or no longer used equipment would waste funds.

Budgetary:

Find vendors with best price / quality.

Judgement and Decisions:

Review current enrollment with ordering lab supplies. Supervisor reviews orders.

Nature of Contacts:

Students: Lab assignments, Course Work, Assigned Projects, Open Labs

Vendors: Replacement parts/ warranty service

Lab Equipment Suppliers: New Equipment and replacement parts
