Lecturer or Assistant Teaching Professor of Information Sciences and Technology

Penn State Brandywine invites applications for a faculty position as Lecturer (Master's) or Assistant Teaching Professor (Ph.D.) in Information Sciences and Technology to begin August 2024 or January 2025. This is a 36-week limited-term (single year) academic appointment, funded for one year from the date of hire with a strong possibility of appointment renewal for subsequent periods.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic person with a commitment to high-quality instruction in a student-centered environment. The instructor will contribute to the success of all students, with a focus on students from historically and currently underrepresented groups in higher education and STEM fields. The successful candidate will teach 12 contact hours per semester with a primary focus on cybersecurity courses, and potential secondary assignments in information technology and programming courses. The courses will support Penn State Brandywine's degree programs, especially those in Cybersecurity Analytics and Operations and Information Technology. Teaching assignments may require day, evening and/or Saturday classes using traditional, hybrid, and/or on-line delivery methods. Evidence of prior successful college-level and online teaching experience is valued for this position, as is enthusiasm for working in a multidisciplinary environment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Teach 12 contact hours per week

  • Participate in course, curriculum, and program development

  • Advise students, supervise student projects, and provide career guidance

  • Participate in campus, university, and community service activities

  • Engage in scholarly, professional development activities to stay current in the discipline, including effective pedagogical methods

    Requirements: Master's Degree or Ph.D. in Information Technology, Computer Information Systems, Information Security, or a closely related field.

    Preferred Requirements: Demonstrated experience teaching in the areas of data privacy and protection, information security management, cyber-defense, security analytics, incident handling and response, or cyber-crime and relevant legal considerations in a cybersecurity and risk management context is preferred. Experience in other areas of Information Technology, including knowledge of common programming languages (Java, Python, scripting languages), secure programming, and use and administration of various operating systems is valued. Evidence of potential in research and publication, interest in active and collaborative learning, and the instructional use of technology are beneficial.
