The Library employs a dedicated and knowledgeable staff of more than 300 professional and support staff working in a large central library, 9 specialized branches, and 3 storage facilities.



Responsibilities

As Assistant Director, Organizational Effectiveness, you will be responsible for:

  • Promoting the Library’s vision and North Stars to positively influence work culture and services.
  • Advancing staffing-related organizational initiatives and functions of the Library.
  • Aligning organizational talent management practices with departmental operations and planning priorities.
  • Coordinating hiring, onboarding, and offboarding processes in collaboration with the Office of the Dean of the Faculty, University Human Resources, and the Library administration.
  • Ensuring that job descriptions for all staff members are kept up to date and managing the annual performance review processes.
  • Serving as a resource for managers and supervisors in handling performance concerns and workplace conflicts, acting as the initial point of contact for coaching and assistance, and liaising with other campus offices when necessary.
  • Maintaining contact with the support staff union (Princeton University Library Assistants / PULA), helping ensure compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and contributing to contract negotiations.
  • Chairing the Library Education and Training Committee (LETC), proactively assessing, developing, and managing training programs as needed, and ensuring that resources are in place to enable staff to enhance and maintain their skills while also addressing business needs.


Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 7+ years of relevant experience in human resources, organizational development, workplace coaching, or a similar field.
  • Experience managing cross-functional initiatives to develop programs and processes that improve organizational effectiveness.
  • Experience supporting a large, complex organization.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Ability to maintain confidential data and information.
  • Experience coaching and mentoring in groups and one-on-one settings.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Competency with standard office (Google Workspace, MS Office) software and tools.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, work effectively, and to think and act decisively.
  • Inherently collegial and collaborative, possessing exceptional judgment, emotional intelligence, and sensitivity to the culture of the University and its constituencies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in labor/management relations within a union context.
