Job Summary

The Director of GSU is responsible for providing leadership and setting the strategic vision for the areas of the Guerrieri Student Union, Event Technical Services, Auditorium Services, Off-Campus Housing, and Commuter Services. This position will work closely with campus partners to ensure the best resources and services within student programming, leadership, and facilities management. The role also involves coordination with other campus areas, including Academic Affairs, Physical Plant, Conference Services and Reservations, Office of Community Standards, and Admissions. The incumbent will also be responsible for maintaining good relationships with the surrounding community, while providing oversight and support for Off-Campus housing and Commuter students.

Authority and Accountability

They will report to the Associate Vice President of Student Affairs.

There are two direct reports (Facilities Coordinator, and Event Technical Services)

Budgetary responsibilities for GSU, Event Technical Services, and Auditorium

The Director of GSU has authority over the following areas: Guerrieri Student Union, Event Tech Services, Off Campus Housing, Auditorium Services, GSU Art Space, Information Desk and Commuter Services.

Required/Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree required, and a master’s degree in a relevant field (such as higher education administration, student affairs or related discipline) is preferred.

Five or more years of related experience in student affairs with a minimum of three years of progressive leadership experience including strategic planning, short term planning and long-term goal setting at the departmental level.

Demonstrated experience in student affairs, campus activities, or related roles within a university setting.  Prior leadership experience, preferably in a supervisory or managerial role. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey ideas, policies, and information to a diverse audience.    

Preferred Qualifications

Strong interpersonal skills for building relationships with students, staff, faculty, and external stakeholders. Experience working with student groups and community organizations to foster a sense of community and engagement. Excellent organizational and event planning skills to execute a variety of activities and programs. The ability to collaborate with diverse student groups to create inclusive and appealing events. Experience in developing and managing departmental budgets.
