Position Summary Information

Position Summary

This role supports the Work-Based Learning Access Program (co-curricular work-based learning): builds programming, engages students, faculty, staff and employers, and facilitates access to work-based learning opportunities primarily but not exclusively among underrepresented students, and students enrolled in undeclared and exploratory programs, for the purpose of fostering self-knowledge, work-based skills, professionalism, academic motivation and persistence to graduation.

• Define the array of work-based learning offerings at the university through engagement with the associate provost; these are specifically the offerings available through the work-based learning program (e.g. redefined federal work study, micro-internships, structured non-credit internships and department-based early college work-based learning).
• Build connections among critical faculty and staff, constructing an effective network for student referral.
• Collaborate with the associate provost and specialists in the Center for Career and Academic Progress to identify students who meet the criteria of ‘underrepresented'; engage with other offices representing students from diverse groups to determine optimal methods for deepening relationships with students.
• Develop a caseload approach to student engagement, with robust outreach, intentional nudges, office hours, group presentations and classroom engagement, to generate interest in work-based learning among underrepresented students (especially those students below 60 total academic credits).
• Support student self-awareness, and learning needs surrounding knowledge, skill and experience; use direct engagement, and assessments to link students to potential work-based learning opportunities.
• Work with university career coaches to support students in building market-appropriate employment documents.
• Employ aCRMsystem to build and maintain employer contacts connected with relevant work-based learning opportunities.
• Build a database of work-based learning opportunities in a centralized, accessible format, focusing upon increasing the number of paid experiences for students (mostly in the summer months).
• Interact with employers by phone, email, video and in-person to develop relationships and match employer needs, to relevant student learning needs.
• Construct, maintain and operationalize an accessible, structured, traceable and assessable non-credit internship program designed to introduce students in their first two years at the university, to relevant, paid or university fund-supported work-based learning opportunities.
• Develop an equitable and accessible application process for non-credit and micro internships, and off-campus federal work study assignments.
• Develop an equitable and accessible application for students in unpaid internships to receive pay from funds appropriated for student stipends; work with the Office of Financial Aid to assure that such funding avoids negative affects on students' financial aid packages.
• Work with the Center for Career and Academic Progress to enhance and deploy existing professional preparation programs that will be required of any student seeking work-based learning opportunities in their first 60 credits through the work-based learning access program; develop credentialing/badging around these programs.
• Assure that all students below 60 credits engaging in work-learning access have completed professionalism and expectations training prior to entering a university-sanctioned opportunity.
• Develop knowledge in, and an access point for students seeking to gain field-relevant experience through project-based micro-internships; match students to opportunities and track experiences.
• Develop assessments in conjunction with the associate provost to measure student work-based learning outcomes, and outcomes of the Work-Based Learning Access Program.
• Work as a liaison between nonprofit organizations, and the university Federal Work Study program, building relationships with potential sites forFWS-funded work-based learning; maintain opportunities in the work-based learning database, and collaborate with the Office of Student Employment and Payroll on the appropriate use ofFWSfunds for off-campus learning.
• Build structure around university work-based learning that facilitates tracking of all key performance indicators as established by the associate provost.
• Engage faculty to identify undergraduate research assistantships; apply appropriate funding, when needed, to afford students paid experiences.
• Develop a faculty application process for micro-grants to promote class-based or department-based work-based learning (programming that will engage large numbers of qualified students in work-based learning in a single or multiple semesters); build an application review, funding and accountability process under the guidance of the associate provost.
• Plan and carry out events to connect employers and students, as well as events for faculty to share work-based learning successes through departmental work-based microgrants.
• Engage in grant searching and writing to fund program expenses with the goal of making the Early College Work-Based Learning program sustainable.
Engage in continuing education on cooperative and experiential education; maintain membership in relevant local, regional and national organizations (e.g. the Cooperative Education and Internships Association) to promote program development and create new work-based learning options for students.
• Support other related activities in Academic Affairs, that are classification appropriate and assigned by the associate provost, all for the purpose of directing students toward developing self-knowledge, work-based skills, professionalism, academic motivation and persistence to graduation.

Minimum Qualifications

An earned bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
3 or more years of professional experience in college or agency-based career education and development.
3 or more years of workforce development experience engaging with for-profit and nonprofit organizations and connecting them with job seekers.
Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

6 or more years of professional experience working in college or agency-based career education and development.
2 or more years of experience regularly engaging and working with students on a college campus.
