Primary Responsibilities

All tenure track faculty members teach the equivalent of 12 hours per semester and maintain an active scholarly work in their field. This position is a joint appointment in the Middle / Secondary Education and Elementary, Early and Special Education Departments and would include both undergraduate and graduate teaching and field supervision in both departments.

Required Qualifications


  • Ph.D./Ed.D. or ABD (with degree completion by August 2024) in STEM Education or a related field; Graduate level course work in STEM education or STEM related work experience is required; Degree must be from a regionally accredited or internationally accredited / government certified university
  • Current or previous teaching license
  • Minimum of five years full time teaching experience in grades P - 12
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development in STEM education
  • Knowledge of national teacher preparation standards (AAQEP) and current trends in educator preparation and STEM education, i.e. Next Generation Science Standards
  • Demonstrated potential for successful teaching at the college/university level
  • Demonstrated evidence of scholarly work, i.e. research, grants, and/or publications
  • Experience or knowledge of using technology in instruction, including online teaching
  • Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to collegiality when interacting with others within the University community

Departmental Information: The College of Education at Southeast Missouri State University has an award winning teacher preparation program that is CAEP (formerly NCATE) accredited and approved by the MO Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The Department of Middle / Secondary Education offers undergraduate program in Middle School that is recognized by Association For Middle Level Education (AMLE) and offers pedagogy courses for the5-9, 9-12 and K-12 teacher education majors. Additionally, graduate course work and programs are offered in secondary education including Masters of Arts in Educational Studies and, Educational Technology. The Department is also in the process of developing a Maters of Arts in Teaching (MAT) with MO licensure in the STEM area. The Department of Elementary, Early, and Special Education department offers undergraduate programs that are recognized by the Association for Childhood International (ACEI), the National Association for Education of Young Children (NAEYC), and the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC). Additionally, graduate programs and course work are offered in elementary, early childhood, and exceptional child education. The teacher preparation programs are experiential, field-based, with faculty actively involved in area PreK - 12 schools.
