The Siegrist Lab ( in the Department of Biology at the University of Virginia seeks a Research Scientist to investigate the genes and signaling pathways that regulate neural stem cell proliferation during development and adulthood. Potential research projects include investigating how animal diet impacts neural stem cell proliferation, how different neuron types are produced during development, and projects geared towards understanding regeneration and repair of adult neural tissues. The Research Scientist will carry out their own research project, as well as provide leadership in the lab by assisting in the training of graduate and undergraduate students in the field of developmental cell biology. Qualified candidates will work with genetic model organisms and perform molecular biology skills, such as generating and analyzing high-throughput sequencing data.

The Biology department at UVA is highly interactive with outstanding facilities and provides an excellent training environment for ambitious scientists at all career stages. Historical strengths within the department include developmental biology, with focus on morphogenesis and pattern formation. Today, departmental strength continues in cell and developmental biology, with additional departmental and across ground strengths in the fields of neuroscience, cancer biology, molecular genetics, and ecology and evolution.

Qualifications: Completion of a Ph.D. in Biology or a related discipline (or its foreign equivalent) is required. Strong writing and verbal communication skills are also required.

Salary will be based on experience. The minimum salary for this position is $55,000.
This is a one-year appointment; however, the appointment may be renewed for additional one-year increments, contingent upon available funding and satisfactory performance.
