The Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) is seeking an individual to assist with outreach, policy development and stakeholder relations. Specifically, the Manager of External Affairs would assist with VEDP initiative-driven projects, partner relations, policy development, and legislative affairs.
VEDP was created by the Virginia General Assembly in 1995 to encourage, stimulate and support development and expansion of the Commonwealth's economy. Like the special Commonwealth that it serves, VEDP has long been regarded as among the best in the country.
This position will assist in providing key support in managing VEDP's partner relations program, overseeing special projects, and monitoring, reviewing, and tracking all proposed economic development legislation. Additional duties include conducting research and analysis to prepare presentations, talking points, and collateral materials; field constituent inquiries; and assisting with planning and execution of familiarization tours, meetings, and projects. The individual must be willing to give public presentations as needed and willing to travel in-state up to 25% of the time, including overnight travel.
Candidates must possess a comprehensive knowledge of and experience with Virginia economic development or the legislative landscape. The successful applicant must have experience conducting research and writing reports, studies, guidelines, white papers, and position statements. The Manager must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing with all levels of employees, government officials, and corporate executives; handle sensitive and confidential data; effectively manage multiple tasks; and work under pressure to meet all deadlines. Proficiency using multiple PC software packages is highly desired, with Microsoft Office Suite in a Windows environment experience preferred. Bachelor's degree in business, communications, economics, political science or urban planning is preferred.
Under Executive Directive #18, effective September 1, 2021, all employees must disclose their COVID-19 vaccination status to designated Human Resources personnel. If fully vaccinated, employees are required to submit vaccination documentation to designated Human Resources personnel. Those who are not fully vaccinated or have not disclosed their current vaccination status, must undergo weekly COVID-19 testing. All weekly testing results must be disclosed to designated Human Resources Personnel.
