Foundation Business Specialist
The Foundation Business Specialist will serve as a point of contact with the USM Foundation for the Office of Institutional Advancement. This position will manage UMBC's over 700 USM Foundation accounts, establishing new accounts, preparing updates to accounts and closing inactive accounts. This person will monitor spending and budgets for funds in managed accounts and communicate progress toward spending to the VP for OIA. They will create reports, exports and queries from the USM Foundation system for all UMBC Foundation Accounts and other accounts as needed. This position will review contracts and pay invoices from Foundation funds.
Responsibilities include understanding the USM Foundation policies and procedures, acting as the main campus resource; providing campus training on the Foundation policies and providing general overall business support to the division. This position is in charge of managing the Scholarship Retriever, UMBC's university portal for all scholarships, fellowship, and awards, system for the division. Duties include building, updating, and managing all new Foundation funded scholarships, awards, and fellowships. The position must update fiscal information periodically to ensure spendable income amounts for awards.
The responsibilities of the Foundation Business Specialist also include supervising the p-card process for the Division of Institutional Advancement. Duties include re-allocation of charges, ensuring reports and backup are properly submitted by p-card holders, approving monthly certificates, and completing quarterly reports for the VP of the division.
Education Required:
Bachelor’s Degree
Experience Required:
Two or more years’ experience working with budgets or financial management preferably in higher education or with a fundraising organization.
Experience Preferred:
Experience working in higher education, a fundraising organization, with foundation funds, donors, State of Maryland agency, or related experience helpful. Experience in A/P or A/R, working with contracts is helpful. Knowledge of systems used in this position helpful but not required - PeopleSoft, Ellucian Advance, Blackbaud FinancialEdge. Understanding the State of Maryland, USM school or UMBC procurement guidelines helpful.
