Our Client

The University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC), an R1 research institution, has earned worldwide distinction through its commitment to bold high impact research and creative scholarship, innovative teaching of graduate and undergraduate students, and engaged public service that benefits our communities and the world.

Since its founding in 1965, UC Santa Cruz has been on an unprecedented trajectory. From being the first in the world to assemble the DNA sequence of the human genome and make it publicly available, to marking a new era in astronomy by being the first to observe merging neutron stars, UC Santa Cruz researchers and experts have been at the forefront of major achievements that create new paradigms and effect real change.

One of only four universities that is both a Hispanic-Serving Institution and a member of the Association of American Universities, UCSC is committed to social justice and environmental stewardship, values that are practiced through research, scholarship, and campus life. With 10 residential colleges, UCSC combines the intimacy of a small, liberal arts college with the depth and rigor of a major research university.

The campus provides unparalleled opportunities for students to learn through hands-on experience—in laboratories, art studios, and archives as well as through field research that spans the world. Its world-class facilities are in one of the most visually spectacular settings in higher education, a 2,000-acre redwood forest at the edge of the Monterey Bay. Recent construction has added 3 residence halls and a new academic building at Kresge College, with more building and renovation to happen over the next few years. A more ambitious project, with 3000 beds and expanded childcare services, called Student Housing West, is projected to start phase 1 in early 2024. UCSC's Long Range Development Plan includes other significant growth the AVC for PDC will have a large roll in accommodating through development of a capital planning process and implementation of capital projects.

UCSC operates under a shared governance model in which faculty, represented by the Academic Senate, primarily chart the University's educational course, while administrative leaders direct its finances, operations and organization. In practice, these domains overlap, are interdependent, and operate with a high level of consultation, trust, and mutual respect, and a tradition of collegial collaboration between administrative leaders and faculty.

Through its Principles of Community, UCSC is committed to promoting and protecting an environment that values and supports every person in an atmosphere of civility, honesty, cooperation, professionalism, and fairness. Guided by these principles, UCSC strives to be diverse, open, purposeful, caring, just, disciplined, and celebrative.

Location

Truly distinctive in its design and beauty, UC Santa Cruz is located on over 2,000 acres of redwood forest and rolling meadows, which overlook the Monterey Bay. A mild climate and a surplus of beaches and forests combine to make the community of Santa Cruz an exceptionally enjoyable place to live and work.

Santa Cruz is located at the north end of Monterey Bay on the Central California coast, approximately 75 miles south of San Francisco. Several major highways run to Santa Cruz, and the San Francisco, San Jose, and Monterey international airports are all nearby. This city of 62,000 people on the Pacific coast of northern California enjoys 250 days of sunshine annually.

Living in Santa Cruz offers residents an urban/suburban mix feel. The schools in Santa Cruz are highly rated, including nationally recognized public and charter high schools. Santa Cruz's healthcare also received high marks with an emphasis on preventive health and wellness options.

In Santa Cruz County, the fun only begins at the beach. With over 14 state parks, wineries, museums, farmer's markets, and outdoor activities like hiking, stand up paddle boarding, surfing, canopy tours and mountain biking, there is plenty to choose from. Santa Cruz County's farmer's markets are the basis for the farm-to-table scene locally. Fresh organic produce is featured on seasonal menus at restaurants throughout the county. There are sidewalk cafés and bistros, casual eateries at the beach or on the wharf, and elegant dining options. Santa Cruz is undoubtedly the quintessential California beach town.
