The Business Support Services unit of the Division of IT is looking to hire a Specialist, Human Resources and Finance position. This position will report directly to the HR Manager.

Responsibilities will include supporting HR and HR-related Finance functions across the Division, which comprises approximately 300 staff and 300 student workers. The Specialist will assist with on-boarding and training employees, managing labor expenses, and our division-wide reports.  Additionally, they will take the lead on Graduate Assistant HR functions.

The Specialist resolves personnel, benefits, compensation, and leave policy inquiries within a timely manner from a high volume of incoming emails by applying the basic HR concepts, practices, and employment knowledge. They process employee appointment information, payroll/time-entry adjustments, changes, additions, and terminations into the HR/payroll system. They also periodically conduct salary transfers. The Specialist manages the Affiliate and non-paid Consultant appointments program.

They will assist the HR Manager with the development, implementation and facilitation of training programs and the drafting of the DIT newsletter.

The Specialist drafts and manages the routing and filing of offer letters and contracts. Retains and manages all personnel records, creates various customized reports, and runs regularly scheduled reports. They create and revise various HR reports and forms on Google Apps, Adobe Sign, etc. The Specialist updates numerous tracking reports and calendar reminders on a regular basis.  This individual will conduct audits across multiple systems on a regular basis.

The ideal candidate will have an independent drive, excellent communication, high levels of organization and attention to detail, as well the skill to multitask in a fast past large division. Also the ability to prioritize and self-motivate and regulate in an extremely rapid productive environment. 
 

Minimum qualifications
 
EDUCATION
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution required.

EXPERIENCE
A minimum of 3-5 years of progressive experience in business operations preferably in a higher education institution.
A minimum of 1 year leading a team.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

-Advanced knowledge of Excel and/or Google Sheets
-Experience reviewing and updating financial reports


Preferences 
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Management, or a related field.
- Work experience in Human Resources, Management, or a related field.
- University of Maryland experience is strongly preferred.
- Experience with HR and finance practices.
- Thorough knowledge of University, State and Federal policies/procedures applicable to personnel management.
- Working knowledge of the University’s Payroll and Human Resource (PHR) appointment system.
