Job Description

JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting directly to the Vice Chancellor for Strategic Enrollment, the Associate Director for International Recruitment at UMSL is entrusted with spearheading undergraduate and graduate recruitment initiatives within an assigned international territory. This role emphasizes extensive travel to Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean, aiming to establish and enhance UMSL's global presence. Responsibilities include overseeing communication with overseas agencies and agents, leading the recruitment and application review process, and managing prospective student communications, playing a key role in cultivating international business relationships and agent agreements.

DUTIES AND TASKS:
  • Territory Management: Develops comprehensive travel, telephone, and email communication plans from inquiry to enrollment, focusing on international recruitment goals.
  • Extensive International Travel: Requires frequent travel to Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean to engage with prospective students and strengthen UMSL's global outreach.
  • Recruiting and Counseling Prospective Students: Cultivates strong relationships with agents, agencies, and prospective students, demonstrating independent judgment in evaluating candidates for both undergraduate and graduate admission.
  • Admissions Process Oversight: Ensures a seamless transition from admissions to student enrollment, including facilitating first-term registration processes for both undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Info Sessions and Events: Conducts presentations, collaborates within admissions and across campus to achieve enrollment objectives, exercising discretion in planning international travel, receptions, and special events.
  • Application File Review: Reads applications, recommends students for review by the Admission Committee, and exercises good judgment in selecting candidates aligned with UMSL's diverse student body criteria.
  • Communication: Initiates tracked and documented telephone/email contact with prospective students and applicants, ensuring personalized and effective communication.
  • Collaboration: Collaborates with internal teams such as Admission Operations, Enrollment-Marketing, and New Student Programs on both internal and external activities.
  • Event Programming and Social Networking: Participates in planning and implementing on/off-campus events, as well as social networking initiatives for Enrollment Management and UMSL Global.
  • Financial Aid Knowledge: Develops expertise in describing UMSL's merit scholarships and financial aid policies, ensuring accurate and high-quality service to families.
  • Confidentiality and Professionalism: Safeguards confidentiality, upholding the highest professional demeanor and ethical behavior, staying current on external market conditions and best practices.
  • Management Responsibilities: Manages agent agreements, assists with strategic partnerships, and ensures compliance with all UMSL policies and relevant regulations.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 6 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Proven ability to work with first-year, transfer, and graduate international students with diverse backgrounds and needs.
  • Ability to establish rapport with students, faculty, alumni, employers, and staff colleagues.
  • Must have the ability to travel worldwide without requiring additional support or arrangements.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • One to three years of college recruitment or relevant sales/recruitment experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in a second language, whether it be in written or spoken form, such as Spanish, Portuguese, or Mandarin, is desirable.
  • Preferred candidates should possess prior work experience in both higher education and/or international agent settings.
  • This position requires valid work authorization for the United States.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Admission Travel: Extensive international travel of 8-10 weeks in the fall and 3-5 weeks in the spring/summer may be required.
  • Lifting of 25-35 lb. rolling carriers and boxes of recruitment materials.
  • Standing and sitting for long periods of time.
  • Extensive phone work and email correspondence.
  • Travel by auto, train, and plane.

In this dynamic role within Enrollment Management, maintaining a robust presence on campus is a key aspect, requiring active engagement in a variety of physical settings. The position also entails extensive travel, providing the opportunity to represent the University globally. Additionally, a significant aspect of the job involves virtual engagement with students and families during evenings and weekends, reflecting our commitment to flexibility and accessibility. Anticipated Hiring Range

Pay commensurate with education and experience.
Hiring Range: $67,746 – $97,103 Annual
