Job Description

We areseeking a Research Scientist in Geospatial Science to join our dynamic team. This role involves conducting innovative research and applying cutting-edge geospatial and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies to address complex challenges. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in GIS, remote sensing, spatial analysis, Machine Learning, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) along with a robust background in Geospatial Science, Computer Science, or a related discipline.

We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

· Geospatial Artificial Intelligence (GeoAI)

· Digital Twins and Smart Cities

· Augmented and Virtual Reality

· Geospatial Big Data Analytics

· Location Intelligence (LI)

· Climate Change Analysis

Key Responsibilities:

· Crafting and proposing novel, scientifically rigorous research ideas.

· Securing sufficient pertinent funding to supplement extant finances.

· Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to merge geospatial data with various other data sources and stay abreast of emerging research trends and methodologies.

· Publish findings in leading peer-reviewed journals and present results at international conferences.

Mentor and oversee the academic development of both graduate and undergraduate students.

Qualifications

• A PhD in Geospatial Science, Geoinformatics, Remote Sensing, Computer Science or a closely related field.
• Proven experience in geospatial research, including expertise in GIS, remote sensing, spatial analysis, Python, Machine Learning and AI.
• Demonstrated success in securing research grants and a track record of scholarly publications.
• Exceptional analytical and technical skills, including proficiency in geospatial software and tools.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across disciplines and with external partners.
• Strong commitment to academic and research excellence, innovation, and collaboration. Ability to thrive in a multidisciplinary research environment and contribute to the growth and success of the UMSL Geospatial Collaborative.
• Mentor and oversee the academic development of both graduate and undergraduate students.
