Extension Program Assistant II

Roane County

This position is contingent upon funding.

The Tennessee Nutrition and Consumer Education Program (TNCEP) Program Assistant II will work 40 hours a week and is responsible to the County Extension Director and works under the direction of the lead TNCEP County Extension Agent. This position will assist with education designed to reach limited resource individuals and families who are eligible to participate in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Focus of education is to promote healthy food and physical activity choices and effective use of SNAP benefits. Continuation of this non-exempt year to year grant-funded position is contingent upon continued funding through the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Tennessee Department of Human Services (TDHS).

Duties/Responsibilities:

· Collaborate effectively with community and state-level partners to implement specific program components of the Tennessee Nutrition and Consumer Education Program (TNCEP).

· Assist in the provision of resources, training and technical assistance to ensure the comprehensive health, nutrition, and physical activity programs occurring in community settings.

· Assist in the development and maintenance of an active coalition of County agencies, organizations, industries, businesses, and individuals to address the nutritional and physical activity needs of all county residents.

· Maintain and grow positive partnerships with local organizations, vendors, agencies, and general public in support of the TNCEP grant goals.

· Assist with community needs assessments and evaluation requirements as needed.

· Provide leadership for a program of activities that meets the needs of all eligible clientele regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age, disability, religion or veteran status.

· Assume other duties as assigned.


Qualifications :

Minimum/Required Qualifications (include education, experience, skills & abilities, licenses & certifications):

· Successful applicant must have a valid Tennessee driver’s licenses.

· Must have a high school diploma or GED, teaching skills, communication skills, and organization skills.

· Clear background check will be required.

· Knowledge and experience with the local community and the low income audience.

· Preference given to individuals who are members of the community to be served.

· Skilled in using a series of hands-on, interactive lessons and committed to delivering sound evidence-based instruction.

· Able to influence behaviors and impact the lives of those that are taught.

· Dedicated to reaching diverse, low-income populations.

· Able to recruit audience members and develop community partnerships.

· Ability to communicate effectively with peers, audiences, partners and Extension professionals.

· Excellent oral and written communication skills.

· Ability to use Microsoft Office software programs for communication, reporting, and training.

Preferred/Desired Qualifications:

· Experience teaching youth and/or adults.

· Building and maintaining community partnerships.

· Computer experience.
