The Financial Literacy Coordinator exists to formulate methods to improve retention, improve graduation rates and reduce student loan default rates by utilizing research-based financial literacy techniques on campus and in the community. The position is responsible for all items related to financial literacy across the UTC campus. The Financial Literacy Coordinator is also responsible for the development and daily operations of the UTC Financial Wellness Center. This position trains and supervises Financial Literacy Peer Coaches. The Financial Literacy Coordinator assists with exit counseling requirements and the Debt Level Counseling for students.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Develop, implement and track results of strategies for increasing Financial Literacy awareness across UTC campus; review and challenge Cohort Default Rates; serve as the main point of contact for Financial Literacy and loan questions; work collaboratively to ensure optimal default prevention techniques are applied; counsel with students and parents regarding the financial aid process and best practices; assist in assessing trends of UTC student loan default rates and develops strategies to bring default rates down; develop workshops, seminars, and training sessions on personal money/debt management as it relates to both student loans and to comprehensive money management life skills; administer follow-up and tracking activities in accordance with the default management procedures; maintain timely and accurate reporting of results; provide on/off campus presentations to high schools, civic clubs, etc. concerning financial aid opportunities, processes and relevant financial literacy concepts; conduct default prevention activities on a daily basis using various sources; actively assist and counsel students to resolve delinquencies and prevent default via deferment or forbearance – including assisting students with relevant paperwork/forms and providing contact information for lenders and services; assist with financial aid customer service as needed; maintain knowledge of constantly changing regulations and procedures and advises colleagues as needed; assist with Customer Service functions as needed.

  • Effective customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Organizational and problem resolution skills
  • Ability to effectively prioritize tasks to meet deadlines
  • Basic computer software skills, including MS Office
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field and two years personal financial counseling experience, three years experience working in Higher Education, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Masters Degree, previous experience working with Financial Literacy on a college campus.
