Job Summary

The Data Coordinating Center ( DCC), housed within the Division of Pediatric Critical Care at the University of Utah School of Medicine has an immediate opening for a Business Intelligence (BI) Developer position. This position provides qualified candidates with an opportunity to be a part of a high-functioning, cutting-edge academic research operation ( ARO) that is working to accelerate the translation of research to the bedside.

The BI Developer will assist in the strategic design and maintenance of streamlined and performance-optimized BI solutions for the entire DCC organization. In doing such, this position will have the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects and acquire new skills while working alongside some of the most innovative individuals within the industry.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

As a BI Developer, your responsibilities will include:

1. Building and Maintaining Reports ( SSRS, Tableau, Power BI): The BI Developer will be responsible for creating and managing reports using tools such as SSRS, Tableau, and Power BI. This involves designing visually appealing and informative reports that meet the specific needs of the business, ensuring data accuracy and consistency, and updating reports as necessary to reflect changes in business requirements or data structures.

2. Writing Ad-Hoc Queries (T- SQL): The role requires proficiency in writing T- SQL queries to retrieve and analyze data. This includes writing complex queries for ad-hoc data requests, optimizing query performance, and ensuring data integrity.

3. Collecting Requirements and Documenting Processes: A key part of the role is to liaise with business stakeholders to gather and understand their BI requirements. This includes documenting business processes, data needs, and report specifications, as well as communicating these requirements to the technical team for implementation.

4. Developing and Maintaining Extract, Transform, Load ( ETL) Processes ( SSIS): The BI Developer will design, develop, and maintain ETL processes using SSIS. This includes extracting data from various sources, transforming it according to business logic, and loading it into data warehouses or other storage solutions.

5. Building and Maintaining Online Analytical Processing ( OLAP) Tools ( SSAS): The role involves creating and managing OLAP cubes using SSAS, which includes designing data models, setting up measures and dimensions, and optimizing cube performance. The ability to build robust and scalable OLAP solutions that support complex data analysis is essential.

6. Following Industry Standards and Best Practices: The BI Developer is expected to stay abreast of the latest trends and best practices in business intelligence and data analytics. This includes adhering to industry standards for data security and privacy, ensuring high-quality and accurate reporting, and continuously seeking ways to improve BI processes and solutions.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree in area of specialty or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) and 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.

- Familiarity with core BI technologies (T- SQL, SSRS, SSIS, SSAS, Tableau, Power BI)

- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and innovative thinking skills

- Strong ability to explain advanced data concepts to fellow developers as well as non- technical end users

- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, balance multiple priorities, and ensure quality standards based on an Agile Development process.
