The Data Coordinating Center ( DCC), housed within the Division of Pediatric Critical Care at the University of Utah School of Medicine has an immediate opening for a Senior Business Intelligence (BI) Developer position. This position provides qualified candidates with an opportunity to be a part of a high-functioning, cutting-edge academic research operation ( ARO) that is working to accelerate the translation of research to the bedside.

The Sr. BI Developer will assist in the strategic design and maintenance of streamlined and performance-optimized BI solutions for the entire DCC organization. In doing such, this position will have the opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects and acquire new skills while working alongside some of the most innovative individuals within the industry.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

As a Sr. BI Developer, your responsibilities will include:

1. Advanced Report Creation and Management ( SSRS, Tableau, Power BI): Lead in the development of complex reports using tools like SSRS, Tableau, and Power BI. Responsibilities include architecting detailed, insightful reports, ensuring data accuracy, and updating reports in line with evolving business requirements and data structures.

2. Expertise in Complex T- SQL Queries: Exhibit exceptional skills in formulating and optimizing intricate T- SQL queries for detailed data analysis and ad-hoc requests, with a focus on peak query performance and data integrity.

3. Strategic Requirements Gathering and Process Documentation: Proactively engage with business stakeholders to capture and understand their BI needs. This includes thorough documentation of business processes, data requirements, and report specifications, and effectively communicating these requirements to the technical team for implementation.

4. Leading ETL Process Development ( SSIS): Take charge of designing, developing, and maintaining sophisticated ETL processes using SSIS, encompassing data extraction from various sources, transformation as per complex business logic, and loading into data warehouses or other storage solutions.

5. Acting as a Business Partner to Customers: With a strong focus on customer management, act as a business partner to clients, representing their business requirements and translating them into functional and then technical specifications. This role requires a deep understanding of customer needs, outstanding communication skills, and the ability to bridge the gap between business objectives and technical solutions.

6. Setting Industry Standards and Upholding Best Practices: Maintain a leading edge in business intelligence and data analytics trends. This entails adhering to data security and privacy standards, ensuring the highest standards in reporting accuracy, and continuously innovating BI processes and solutions.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree in area of specialty or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) and 4-6 years of experience in the field or in a related area.

- Expertise in Data Warehouse Architecture and Design: Advanced knowledge in designing and optimizing data warehouse architecture, with a focus on scalability and efficiency in handling large datasets.

- Advanced Understanding of Database Systems and ETL Processes: Deep knowledge of database management systems, with a specialized focus on advanced OLAP functionalities and ETL frameworks. Demonstrated ability to design and optimize complex ETL processes.

- Proficiency in Core BI Technologies: Advanced skills in core BI technologies such as T- SQL, SSRS, SSIS, SSAS, Tableau, and Power BI, with the ability to leverage these tools to create high-performance BI solutions.

- Exceptional Analytical and Problem-Solving Abilities: Outstanding analytical skills with a knack for problem-solving and innovative thinking, capable of tackling complex data challenges and delivering actionable insights.

- Leadership in Technical Communication: Strong capability to articulate complex data concepts and strategies to a diverse range of stakeholders, including fellow developers and non-technical users, facilitating effective knowledge transfer and collaboration.

- Project Management and Agile Methodology Expertise: Proven ability to lead projects, meeting stringent deadlines and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment. Expertise in Agile Development methodologies, with a focus on continuous improvement and quality standards in BI processes.
