Position Summary

The Department of Nurse Anesthesia at Virginia Commonwealth University is recruiting for a pool of persons for possible part-time adjunct teaching positions. This pool will be utilized on an as-needed basis. Your application will be active for one year. Only those selected for an interview will be contacted.

Position Responsibilities
  • Coordinate assigned courses in the Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice (DNAP) program, in accordance with the teaching workload policies of the College of Health Professions
  • Teach assigned areas of content in courses throughout the curriculum of the DNAP program, consistent with areas of knowledge, skill, and department needs
  • If assigned as the lead instructor for a Principles & Practice course, coordinate and teach simulation-based laboratory sessions at all program sites
Required Qualifications
  • Graduate degree from a nurse anesthesia program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA)
  • Two years experience as a CRNA
  • Experience or high potential for effectively and inclusively educating and mentoring graduate students from under-represented minority and/or historically marginalized communities
  • Demonstrated experience or high potential for fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
  • Experience in promoting racial equity, inclusivity, and diversity in the learning and working environment
  • Valid state nursing license to practice as an RN and CRNA in any state and eligible for RN and NP licensure to practice as a CRNA in the commonwealth of Virginia
  • Certification or recertification as a CRNA by the NBCRNA
  • If assigned as the lead instructor for a Principles & Practice course, residence within commuting distance of one of the four DNAP program sites (Richmond, Alexandria, Roanoke, Abingdon, VA) and the availability to be in-person, at that site commensurate with the contracted position requirements, i.e. 2 days per week if 0.4 FTE
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong communication skills as evidenced through prior public speaking engagements, presentations, and/or written scholarship
  • Background and experience in clinical practice and clinical or didactic teaching in nurse anesthesia
  • Experience in graduate-level course design
  • Experience with assessment item writing
Salary Range: Salary to correspond with credits taught; hourly conversion rate of ~$100-$150
